RSE (Relationships & Sex Education)

pupils playingRSE & PSHE programme

At Flimby Primary School, we follow Kapow Primary planning. We have chosen this scheme as we believe it prepares our children for life in the 21st Century. The curriculum covers key areas which provide children with the knowledge, skills and attitudes that they need to effectively navigate the complexities of life. The curriculum supports children to make informed choices now and as they grow older. The key areas include: health, safety, wellbeing, relationships and financial matters. We want our children to become confident individuals and active members of society.

After consideration of the views of parents and staff, the Governors have decided that sex education will be carried out in accordance with the following principals:

  • Sex education is supportive and complimentary to parents own responsibility in these matters.
  • Sex education is an integral part of a Health-education programme and needs specific planning.
  • All sex education should be approached in the context of loving relationships and family life, which can mean a one or two parent family.
  • Parents have a right to withdraw their child from sex education lessons but not from those elements that form part of the Science National Curriculum. Parents will, therefore, be notified in writing in advance of the sex and relationships lessons taking place and will be given an opportunity to view and discuss the materials used.
