Mental Health and Wellbeing

We are very passionate about promoting positive mental health and well-being here at Flimby Primary School. Evidence shows that mental health and well-being programmes in schools can lead to significant improvements in children’s mental health and social and emotional skills. Wellbeing provision in schools can also lead to reductions in classroom misbehaviour and bullying.

Each child benefits from whole class well-being sessions every day where they allow their minds to relax and find their happy place. We use a mix of approaches in school including yoga, mindfulness, healthy eating, exploring feelings and emotions and meditation which includes breathing techniques. The aim is to teach children the importance of understanding their feelings and emotions and how to deal with them. We give children the time to talk and reflect and provide them with tools to move towards a positive mind-set.

We have half termly well-being assemblies to promote and support physical and mental health and well-being. Each class also has a worry box for children to easily request support from a trusted adult.
